What Makes a Successful Leader Project Sheet

Business Essentials:  Chapter 7

What Makes a Good Leader?

You will select a leader of your choice, review a book on this person, and then prepare a PowerPoint slide presentation on the reason(s) for this person’s success.  You may include life lessons from this person in your presentation.   Each of you will cover/research a separate leader—first come, first served basis.

Your slide presentation will include a minimum of 11 slides.  See below for detailed instructions/content for each.

Slide 1:  Title Slide

Include the title of your presentation along with the leader you will present and your name.

Slide 2:  Define leadership

Slide 3:  Introduce your leader

For your chosen leader, provide the name, birth, background/education, field of leadership.

Slide 4:  Identify the leadership theory

Provide the leader’s theory/recipe for success or steps this person took/recommends for the success of a leader.

Slide 5:  Characteristics of Effective Leaders—select 5 to highlight for your leader

Select/identify 5 characteristics of effective leaders from our text, p. 157 (at least 5 but you may include more if you wish).  List these traits as 5 you feel are the top/most desirable traits of a successful leader.  Include the terms/traits AND the explanation of each as given on p. 157.

Slides 6-10—OR as many additional slides as you feel necessary

You will need to complete 1 slide on each of the above traits elaborating on/explaining how your “leader” demonstrated this trait—use specific examples on each slide—this may be a quote, accomplishment, etc. (in some cases, the title of a chapter in the book provides the content of the lesson, etc.)

These 5 or so slides together should tell what made your person a successful leader.

Final Slide:  Conclusion

End your presentation with a slide to summarize the leadership lesson(s) anyone can learn from your research/person.  Include a complete/correct citation for your book.  Examples are available/visible in the Media Center—or ask a media specialist or me for assistance.
